Glapwell Parish Council to set and resolve its Budget and Precept for 2026/27 at its rescheduled meeting on the 29th January 2026
14th of January, 2026
Good afternoon,
Everyone is talking about budgets at the moment – and your Parish Council will also be discussing its own budget for 2026/27, at our re-scheduled meeting on the 29th January 2026.
Like all Parish Council’s, Glapwell Parish Council doesn’t receive direct funding from Central Government, so we rely on our Precept, plus any other income we generate from our facilities (e.g., from the hire of our sports hall, hire of our village hall, and interest from our bank account, etc.) to meet our spending costs – which is why Glapwell Parish Council keeps a careful eye on its budget to ensure it spends money wisely and appropriately.
For those who don’t know, the Precept is the amount of money that Glapwell Parish Council requests from its residents via the Council Tax to fund our local services and operations - essentially the shortfall between our spending needs and other income. This demand is added to your council tax bill and collected by the billing authority (Bolsover District Council) and then paid to Glapwell Parish Council, in two instalments.
Glapwell Parish Council receives no other funding, unless we are successful in obtaining any specific grant funding.
Last year, in January 2025, Glapwell Parish Council resolved that the precept for 2025/26 be set at £133,250.00. This was a 2.5% increase (reflecting inflation) on the previous year’s 2024/25 precept of £130,000.00.
As we resolve the budget for the forthcoming financial year 2026/27, at our meeting on the 29th January 2026, we will also resolve the Precept figure. The decision we make will reflect our commitment to maintaining services for the village, such as the Community Centre, while being mindful of the financial pressures many households continue to face.
Despite rising costs and increasing demands, the Parish Council will work diligently to ensure that the village’s needs are met without placing additional burden on our residents. We remain focused on delivering value for money and sustaining the quality of life in Glapwell through responsible financial management.
Thank you for your continued support and engagement.
